Our hotel is a block away from the famous Kenrokuen Garden, one of the best three in the country, at least that’s what the brochure as well as the guide books say.  A few blocks past the gardens is more of the “regular” city, a long street with bright neon and many shops and an internet café as well as an Italian restaurant.

The Japanese love Italian food.

Along this garden entrance stand wood buildings strung together into connected store front – little restaurants and craft stores. Wide benches face the stores shaded with red umbrellas, looking inviting.  loved it, didn’t even know how much we would on first viewing, but we adored this garden and this little rest spot.

Kanazawa is famous for tying the ever green trees up every winter so the tree branches don’t break under the weight of the snow. Isn’t that fabulous?  No wonder there’s 4% unemployment. it takes three men one full day to tie up the trees, and the carousel of ropes looks beautiful just by themselves.
