You can eat the local yogurt with a fork. It has the consistency of sour cream. But despite my desire to be very local, it still tastes like yogurt, not my favorite stuff.
It rained on and off our whole trip – global warming, if the shrinking Alaska glaciers don’t convince you, standing Tinos in the pouring rain with the locals saying “this is not right, it’s hot in April” will. I made may Sponge Bob sightings in Greece, one little boy was showing his Sponge Bob doll all the details of the Parthenon. Sponge Bob looked very impressed.
The good news, I figured out, was that it was over cast, the Parthenon is all white marble and in the sun, it’s glaring white. So we were, in contrast, pretty comfortable.
Sacrifice for the Gods barbeque for the people
We traveled to Delphi to make an offering and a request of the gods Past ruins of merchant shops leading to Apollo’s impressive temple and around that, small shrines, from Athens Sparta, from Naxos
And then here in Tinos Pilgrims travel up the main street on their knees to make requests to the icon of the Virgin Ensconced in the Church of the annunciation built on an old temple site for Dionysus merchants line the street with candles, charms incense oh no, this is completely different.
St. George Feast Day We marched up a sheer stairs to stand and watch the festival of St. George. At least 3,000 people tripled the village population to take part in the procession of the Icon. Everyone in the procession dressed in native costume. They marched all through the narrow village streets. Then broke up to rest in the streets and sidewalks infront of the travernas to eat lamb and drink locally made wine. We ate lamb as well. It's all they serve on Easter Sunday
Here is how our bill is figured at the Taverna in Santorini.
Our waiter figured our bill on the paper covering the table cloth.
Okay, you had the fish, that’s 18 euro, and you had the calamari, oh that’s very good, that’s 20 euro. and the wine, that’s 16 euro and you had the mixed grill, what’s the matter you don’t eat fish? That’s 16 euro. Now, it’s Tuesday, so that’s 5% off, I like you, that’s 10% off. I hate my mother in law, that an extra 18%, it’s not raining, that’s 10% off. You are American’s no? That’s 15% more for George Bush. So that’s about 89 Euros. Have a nice day.
